In our Ruby Red Strawberries post, we learned about Flavonoids/flavonols, which are compounds found in red fruits and vegetables that help reduce free radical damage to cells.

With Outrageous Oranges and Yummy Yellows, we talked about the power of carotenoids (powerful antioxidants) and immune-boosting vitamin C.

Gorgeous Greens provide us with a spectrum of vitamins and minerals (depending on the shade of green) including calcium and vitamins K, A and C.

Powerful Purples brought us anthocyanins, extremely powerful antioxidants, which help protect from inflammation and cardiovascular diseases.

Finally, Brilliant Browns and Whites introduced us to the powerful antimicrobial compound allicin (found predominantly in garlic) and lignans, which have strong antioxidant properties.

In short, we learned that fruits and vegetables exist in different colors for specific reasons and, while they share similar properties, they have value individually. Something else we learned? That there’s always a great way to incorporate kefir with your fruits and veggies! Whether you’re craving a sweet recovery smoothie, a spicy tonic or a healthy dessert, there are endless ways to drink your colors with Lifeway Kefir!
