Thanksgiving is in exactly two days, which calls for a toast… Citrus & Fennel Toast! The bright colors and interesting textures of these gut-healthy ingredients make it easy to create a stunning presentation that looks like a piece of art. Fennel and red onion have powerful antioxidants and are a good source of vitamin C; dill is a good source of magnesium and vitamin A; egg has protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and HDL cholesterol, which is the good cholesterol that is linked to supporting heart health; orange is an excellent source of vitamin C, and our farmer cheese has 12 live and active probiotic cultures that may support a healthy immune system and a balanced gut microbiome. Bottom line, this toast is a healthy option to get the important nutrients you need during cold & flu season. Sharing is caring so be sure to tag us in your #ToastTuesday creations!
Your Gut Matters
Eating habits also play a role in mental health. Research has shown that probiotic-rich foods decrease anxiety and boost the mood. That makes kefir a great wellbeing tool because it contains 12 live and probiotic cultures. Psychiatrist James Greenblatt explained that “‘the gut is really your second brain. There are more neurons in the GI tract than anywhere else except the brain.’” As research continues to develop, it’s becoming more and more apparent that there is a link between the gut and the brain. What was once suspected as one-way communication (brain to gut) is now understood to be more of a two-way system. Thus, the health of our gut may directly impact the health of our minds.Servings: 1 - 2
