Fire up your grill for a batch of our Farmer Cheese Stuffed Burgers any time you need a filling meal packed with protein and all your favorite burger fixings.

Featuring a high protein sauce made with Lifeway Farmer Cheese, these burgers make a great cookout recipe to keep on hand, and they’re easy to put together. Our cultured farmer cheese is easy to digest and lactose intolerant friendly, giving it a leg up on regular cheese varieties used in traditional hamburger recipes. Its creamy texture and mild flavor make it the perfect vehicle to carry all your favorite flavors and toppings.

In this recipe, we mixed Lifeway Farmer Cheese with some spices, hot sauce, and nutritional yeast for a cheddar-like flavor, which also makes the recipe healthier and lower in saturated fats. You can find nutritional yeast in most all supermarkets sold near the aisle where other seasonings are; it’s high in B vitamins and has a delicious cheesy flavor that’s easy to use in just about anything. After preparing the Farmer Cheese Sauce used to fill the burgers, it’s time for the meat to visit the grill before they’re assembled with the other ingredients. Then you can dig into a mouthwatering burger you won’t soon forget!

The Benefits of Cultured Dairy for Better Health:
Research continues to show the importance of eating healthy foods, including cultured dairy such as kefir, for better gut health, a strong immune system, and to support the microbiome. Fermented foods like kefir hold important value in this line of research due to the link between the gut-brain axis and overall health.
Specifically, kefir has been shown to help diversify the microbiome, support the digestive system, reduce inflammation, support healthier blood sugar levels, and improve satiety since the bioavailable protein it contains triggers the release of GLP-1. Lifeway Kefir also contains a variety of nutrients that are vital for healthy bones and overall health including vitamins D3, K, and B 12 along with calcium and potassium. Along with our kefir, we also offer our creamy, cultured Lifeway Farmer Cheese, a high protein cheese made with live and active cultures to support a healthy microbiome that’s easy to spread and contains no added salt or sugar.
Prep Time: 40 mins Servings: 4Ingredients
Farmer Cheese Sauce:
- 1 cup Farmer Cheese
- 2 tbsp. pickle juice
- 1-2 tbsp. nutritional yeast
- 1/4 tsp. turmeric
- 1/4 tsp. hot sauce
Burgers:
- 1 pound of lean, grass-fed ground beef
- 4 buns of choice (we used pretzel buns)
Toppings:
- 1/2 cup sugar-free BBQ sauce
- sliced tomatoes
- sautéed sliced onions
- pickle slices
- extra Farmer Cheese Sauce (from above)
Directions
- Make the Farmer Cheese Sauce. Blend Lifeway Farmer Cheese, pickle brine, nutritional yeast, paprika, turmeric, and hot sauce in a food processor until smooth. Set aside 1/4 cup of sauce. Spoon remaining sauce into 4 thin, 5 in. circles on a parchment paper-lined tray. Freeze for 30 mins.
- Divide ground beef into 4 portions. Form half of a portion into the bottom of a burger press. Place a frozen cheese disc in the center, then add other half of meat on top. Press to seal. Alternatively, use your hands to shape meat around cheese disc. Repeat with remaining portions. Grill or cook burgers in a skillet over medium-high heat for about 5 mins on each side.
- Add 2 tbsp. BBQ sauce to the bottom of each bun, then top with a burger patty, sliced tomato, sautéed sliced onions, and pickle slices. Drizzle with remaining Farmer Cheese sauce and close with top buns. Enjoy!
