Raspberry and Nutella Overnight Oats

Our Raspberry and Nutella Overnight Oats is a decadent, yet not overly sweet, on-the-go breakfast. It features only four ingredients: whole grain oats, rich Nutella, tart and tangy kefir, and juicy raspberries. Our no sugar added plain kefir is the perfect companion for the indulgent Nutella that also gives you a punch of probiotic power thanks to the natural probiotics found in our kefir! Oats are also a great source of prebiotic fiber, which helps feed probiotics to nourish your gut on a complete level. Try this for an indulgent breakfast or even a dessert! Are you vegan or just prefer to eat dairy-free? No problem! Just swap our Lifeway Vanilla Oat milk in for this recipe instead of using our dairy-based Kefir.

Origins of Nutella

Piedmont, Italy; a mountainous landscape of hilltop castles and bountiful vineyards, is the home of Nutella. This rich and creamy chocolate-and-hazelnut spread was created by Pietro Ferrero, a local bakery owner in Alba, Piedmont. It was first sold under the name “Supercrema,” but was later renamed to Nutella. By 1964, this indulgent spread gained global fame and is now a kitchen staple in many homes.

Fun Fact

Ludmila Smolyansky, co-founder of Lifeway, was one of the first importers of Nutella to the United States. Upon its opening in the late 70s, her delicatessen and importing business became a vibrant hub for foodies seeking international fare. Learn about Lifeway’s Nutella connection and more in The Kefir Cookbook by our CEO Julie Smolyansky.

Studies have shown that reduced diversity of healthy gut bacteria during early years is associated with an increase in food allergies during school-age years. In addition, kefir made from whole fat milk helps absorb key nutrients such as Vitamins A, D, E, and K. Vitamin K is important because it helps your bones absorb calcium. It’s important to know that kefir contains a special trio: vitamin D, K, and calcium – all three crucial elements to support bone health.

Prebiotics + Probiotics = A Healthier You

Prebiotics are non-living, non-digestible carbohydrates naturally found in a variety of foods. Your body actually can’t digest prebiotics, so they’re what probiotics feed off of to remain actively working in your digestive system. They help the digestive system by promoting the growth of good bacteria. Prebiotics and probiotics work together in balance to make sure our digestive system stays on track and regular. Research has found that consuming a variety of prebiotic and probiotic food sources may improve your body’s natural functions, including both your immune and digestive systems.
