Dot cakes have taken over social feeds the last year, and while we’ve created our own high-protein twist on the original, a chocolate version, and even a savory breakfast version, we have to say, this High Protein Halloween Dot Cake is easily our most festive flavor yet! Made with our probiotic-rich, high protein Lifeway Farmer Cheese, this dot cake recipe is packed with fall flavor and features a divine combination of soft and creamy textures.

How to Make This High Protein Halloween Dot Cake with Lifeway Farmer Cheese
We paired Lifeway Farmer Cheese with prepared Simple Mills pumpkin baking mix that features fall flavors blended into moist and tender cake pieces. Made without gluten, highly-processed flours, or refined sugars, it’s the perfect seasonal cake mix to combine with gut-healthy Lifeway Farmer Cheese. Our cultured cheese is silky smooth, mild in flavor, and easy to use in sweet recipes like this dot cake just like you would ricotta or cream cheese. Packed with protein like cottage cheese (but smoother in texture), it’s also free of added salt, sugar and is gluten-free and low-lactose for easy digestion.
Once the cake is baked, it’s layered inside the Lifeway Farmer Cheese container, then finished with all dot cakes’ signature topping — dot sprinkles, of course! We used Halloween colors for the sprinkles, but choose any you prefer and feel free to change up the cake flavor to suit your tastes and preferences. Either way, this viral, protein-packed treat is one you won’t want to miss!

The Benefits of Cultured Dairy for Better Health:
Research continues to show the importance of eating healthy foods, including cultured dairy such as kefir, for better gut health, a strong immune system, and to support the microbiome. Fermented foods like kefir hold important value in this line of research due to the link between the gut-brain axis and overall health.
Specifically, kefir has been shown to help diversify the microbiome, support the digestive system, reduce inflammation, support healthier blood sugar levels, and improve satiety since the bioavailable protein it contains triggers the release of GLP-1. Lifeway Kefir also contains a variety of nutrients that are vital for healthy bones and overall health, including vitamins D3, K, and B12 along with calcium and potassium. Along with our kefir, we also offer our creamy Lifeway Farmer Cheese, a high protein cheese made with live and active cultures to support a healthy microbiome that’s easy to spread and contains no added salt or sugar.
Prep Time: 55 mins Servings: 2Ingredients
- 1 box of prepared Simple Mills Pumpkin Baking Mix
- *or an alternative pumpkin baking mix
- 1 (16 ounce container) Farmer Cheese
- 1 1/2 tbsp. pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- pinch of kosher salt
- Topping: Halloween colored sprinkles (nonpareils used)
Directions
- *Prepare ahead by making the Simple Mills Pumpkin Baking Mix in a loaf cake container (30-35 minutes required). If using another brand, bake the cake according to the package directions. Let the cake cool 15 minutes, and slice it into 1-inch thick pieces. You will need 3 pieces for this recipe.
- Add the Lifeway Farmer Cheese, maple syrup, vanilla, and salt to a medium-sized bowl, and stir to combine until fully mixed. Set aside the farmer cheese container to serve the dot cake in.
- Assemble the dot cake: Arrange 1 1/2 slices of the pumpkin cake on the bottom of the farmer cheese container. Note: You may have to cut the cake slices slightly to arrange it in the bottom of the container. Next, spread half the filling from step 2 over the top of the cake, then add some sprinkles to cover the top of the filling.
- Repeat with the other cake slices for the second layer, cutting them as needed to create a second layer of cake on top of the sprinkles. Add the remaining portion of the filling from step 2, and then add the final layer of sprinkles.
- Serve the cake immediately, or refrigerate until ready to eat. Enjoy!
