Holy Moly, it’s National Guacamole Day!

Food fanatics that we are at Lifeway, we’re always more than happy to celebrate special foods on special days. From Chocolate Milkshake Day to Ice Cream Sundae Day, Waffle Day and beyond, we know that good food is fuel for our bodies, but also feeds to soul.

Which brings us to National Guacamole Day (we thought it was every day, too). By now, you must know that we’re huge fans of avocados. Not only are avocados creamy, rich and delicious, they’re also extremely nourishing and loaded with healthy fats and vitamins. Some people even consider them the perfect food!

We use avocados in many of our recipes (including this delicious smoothie), but as it’s National Guacamole Day, we’re sharing our two favorite guacamole-esque recipes with you, along with some fun facts about avocados the delicious dip itself.

In our avocado Healthy Ingredient Spotlight, we talked about how the fruit is not only rich in healthy fats, it’s surprisingly high in fiber (2g per serving) and contains nearly twenty essential vitamins and minerals, including vitamin C, folate, vitamin K, vitamin E and potassium. They’re unique consistency makes them great in puddings, smoothies, sauces, and of course, dips like guacamole!

So what does a dip need to do to be called guacamole? Well, the caliber of avocado is crucial, of course, but it also comes down to the other ingredients. There is a lot of controversy around what makes a good guacamole, but to be fair, we’re hard pressed to find one we won’t eat (especially if it has kefir in it!).

As far as recipes are concerned, there is no “right” recipe for guacamole – it’s generally considered to be a mixture of avocado, vegetables and spices (which is why everyone has their own). At it’s most basic level, guacamole can even be made with just avocado and sea salt, mashed together, of course, and served with your favorite veggies or chips.

Simple enough, right? We think so, which is why frequently change up our guacamole recipes! Currently we’re enjoying our traditional Game Day Guacamole, but for a spicier option, we quickly turn to our Ancho Chili Avocado Kefir Dip. We’ll be enjoying them all day and hope you will be, too!
