The Benefits of Cultured Dairy for Better Health:
Research continues to show the importance of eating healthy foods, including cultured dairy such as kefir, for better gut health, a strong immune system, and to support the microbiome. Fermented foods like kefir hold important value in this line of research due to the link between the gut-brain axis and overall health. Specifically, kefir has been shown to help diversify the microbiome, improve digestion, reduce inflammation, support healthier blood sugar levels, and improve satiety since the bioavailable protein it contains triggers the release of GLP-1.
Lifeway Kefir also contains a variety of nutrients that are vital for healthy bones and overall health: vitamin D3, K, calcium, and vitamin B12. Along with our kefir, we also offer our artisan-made Farmer Cheese, a creamy high-protein cheese made with live and active cultures to support a healthy microbiome that’s easy to spread and contains no added salt for optimal heart-health benefits.
Prep Time: 3 hours Servings: 4-6Ingredients
Green Layer:
- 2 cups frozen green grapes
- 1 cup Organic Whole Milk Vanilla Kefir
Orange Layer:
- 2 cups frozen mango
- 1 cup additional Lifeway Organic Whole Milk Vanilla Kefir or another flavor
Pink Layer:
- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- 1 cup additional Lifeway Organic Whole Milk Vanilla Kefir or another flavor
Other:
- 4-6 Waffle cones to serve (if using)
Directions
- Tip: Blend each layer in the same sequence as how they are listed out in the ingredient list to avoid color transfer in the blender or food processor.
- Make the green layer: Add 1 cup Lifeway Kefir and 2 cups frozen grapes to a blender or food processor, then blend until fully combined. The mixture should be very thick, so use a tamper or spatula to scrape down the sides if needed. Add this layer to a shallow glass container (preferably one with a lid) and put it in the freezer while you make the next two layers.
- Make the orange layer: Add 1 cup Lifeway Kefir and 2 cups frozen mango to a blender or food processor, then blend until fully combined. Add this layer to the same container with the green layer, and put it back in the freezer while you make the final layer.
- Make the pink layer: Add 1 cup Lifeway Kefir and 2 cups frozen strawberries to a blender or food processor, then blend until fully combined. Add this layer to the container with the other two layers, then stir them all together to make a swirled pattern. Cover and freeze for 2-3 hours or until solid.
- Scoop the mixture out and serve in waffle cones or bowls. Enjoy!
- If your blender or food processor isn't very strong, it can help to let the frozen fruit sit out for 10 minutes before blending/processing the ingredients, but don't leave it out any longer to avoid it melting and affecting the texture of the recipe's end results.
