What To Eat the Day Before the Big Feast

The holiday season has arrived and so has an abundance of delicious food, parties, and traveling. During this festive chaos, it’s easy to get caught up in everything and forget to nourish our wellbeing. Instead of starving yourself to make room for Thanksgiving, it’s healthier to mindfully snack throughout the day. Here are some of our favorite ways to snack the day before Thanksgiving!

Dairy or Dairy Free

Kefir

Of course, our first snack recommendation is kefir! Kefir is a tart and tangy cultured milk smoothie that is high in protein, calcium, and vitamin D. The probiotics in kefir may help support a healthy gut and immune system. Because our kefir is high in protein, it can help reduce cravings. Feeling stressed? Our kefir also contains tryptophan which helps raise the levels of serotonin in your brain! You can drink it straight from the bottle, pour it into a glass, or use it in one of our recipes!

Citrus Fruits

One of the most exciting things about fall (besides pumpkin spice and the holidays, of course) is that citrus fruits are in season! Juicy and sweet, clementines are the perfect snack to throw into your bag as you run last minute errands. Packed with Vitamin C, these little gems will keep you hydrated and feeling your best.

Healthy Fats: Avocado & Mixed Nuts

Healthy fats are monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. Polyunsaturated fats are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and omega-6 fatty acids. Foods rich in these fatty acids may help keep the heart healthy, lower cholesterol, and boost memory. To get some of these healthy fats and protein, try topping some avocado slices with Farmer Cheese.

Popcorn

Popcorn, when prepared correctly, contains more polyphenols than fruits and vegetables! Polyphenols are antioxidants found in plant-based foods. Popcorn is best when air-popped because it’s high in fiber and contains no sugar or sodium. You can make your popcorn even tasty by lightly tossing it in healthy fats like sunflower oil avocado oil (etc).

The possibilities of healthy snacking are endless. These are just a few of our favorites. (All of these listed can be found in our office daily!) What are some other foods that you like to snack on? Let us know on Instagram by tagging #LifewayEverday!
